Soil and talks of soil

Generally, soil are looked as a substrate in which plants plunge their roots and from where they draw water and nutrients.
But soil shelter also a heterotrophic life vegetable and animal which exert both of many influences on the hydrous mode and the exchanges of nutrients.
To achieve the goal of self-sufficiency, the development of the fertility of the ground in the exploitation is of primary importance.

Soil is not only one system chemical, organic and mineral, it has also a physical structure. To ensure a durable fertility, the physics structure the soil must be improved and all the organic and chemical processes must be stimulated. This wants to say that the balance of the processes of composition and decomposition, of the formation of the humus and mineralisation must be improved. Soil must remain friable and plastic, deep and ventilated.

To reach this " ideal ", biodynamic method insists vigorously on the need for adopting cultivation methods respecting soil. The work frequency must be limited to a minimum to avoid compactions by the passage of the tractor and to prevent the formation of hardened horizons.

Soil needs rest to work out the humus and to preserve a good structure.
For a soil, the sign of a real fruitfulness, it is not only the high number of growths, but of the balanced conditions allowing the deployment of a very differentiated life of the ground.
It is also important to restore nutritive humus very regularly, thing as important as a good total content of the soil of humus.

Do not forget all underground fauna, in particular the worm of soil, which allows the loosening of the ground, as well as the mixture and the formation of a complex of humic and mineral substances.

Quotation of Rudolf Steiner : " If the life of soil became so to speak too intense, choking, these underground animals would ensure the evacuation of the too strong vitality. They are thus of marvellous valves, controlling vitality present in soil ".

The care taken to the agricultural fertility of soils is the key to success of a field.
